Uncovering Depression and Comorbid Disorders That Complicate Its Treatment in Primary Care

Length:  May be given as either a one and one-half hour or two hour presentation
Objectives:

  1. To understand the difficulties of rapidly diagnosing depression in a primary care setting to the unique conditions and patient populations of the primary care setting, the role of atypical presentations of depression, and the presence of comorbid psychiatric disorders.
  2. To understand the importance of recognizing comorbid psychiatric disorders as the cornerstone or avoiding treatment failures with depression.
  3. Learn to utiilize the 4-Question Quick-Psych Screen for Primary, Care, that rapidly screens for depression and alerts the physician that other disorders may be present.
  4. Learn to utilize specific screening questions for rapidly uncovering common comorbid psychiatric disorders such as Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
